Moany Mondays - 'Hungry Followers'

I hate going to bed on a Sunday night with the doom of Monday only hours away, when my alarm goes off at 8am on Monday I would literally rather sink into the ground than get up. So, what better day to post 'Moany Mondays' than on a day everyone seems to be moaning about everything from the stench of their boyfriends breath to the heel of their shoe breaking on the way to work. This week I am moaning about 'Hungry Followers' who are out to get as many followers as possible...

Right, for the past week or so this 'following' lark has really opened my eyes to what I see as a huge flaw in the wonderful blogging community. Now, I am sure pretty much everyone has experienced this step by step format I have gone through about 20 times this week:

1. I Open Bloglovin' or Twitter and see I have a new follower
2. A cheesy smile spreads upon my face because I have a new follower (surely I'm not the only one who does that?)
3. I then check out their Bloglovin' and IF I like their Blog (and it's something I will read) I hit that follow back button
4. If it's Twitter, I generally follow back if they are Beauty or Fashion related or just look like a nice person
5. So, they were nice enough to spend time checking me out, I was polite enough to do the same and followed them IF I was interested and then the next thing I realize THEY HAVE UNFOLLOWED ME
6. I then click the 'Unfollow' button as fast as I can with an angry face

The last step does sound childish but I just can't follow someone who is hungry for followers. To me that is just not how it works, it's rude and very disheartening to someone who has put a lot of work into their blog. I am not going to lie and say followers don't mean anything to me because they do, it's fab knowing people want to read what I write, but on the other hand I am not hungry for them. I only want people to follow me if they are generally interested in what I write, whereas 'Hungry Followers' just want a hugely unbalanced followers and following count which isn't something to boast about. Once I realize someone is a 'Hungry Follower' I unfollow right away, as I am sure most people do, so where does that get the 'Hungry Follower'? I tell you where, right back to their original follower count and plastered with a bad name.

Now, if you haven't experienced those 6 steps, not even once, please tell me what you are doing because I need to know!

If, like me, you are experiencing this on a regular basis or just have any thoughts or views on this Monday moan of mine please share your comments down below!

  1. I completely agree with this, too many people get hung up on followers when it definitely isn't everything. My pet hate is when people buy followers when so many of us have worked hard for them

    1. 100% agree, buying followers is pointless and is so obvious when they write posts and get no feedback... lol! Xx

  2. We were talking about this last week weren't we? It's so annoying, and just downright rude.

I had this girl who started following me and loads of others last year. Once she had over 16,000 or so followers, she tweeted that her twitter was getting too crowded and if you wanted her to keep following you, you had to respond to her tweet and interact with her regularly. Most didn't, cause in the end she was only following around 30-40 people.

I happily hit unfollow as soon as I saw she had unfollowed me, seems like she was getting a really big head, so no huge loss in her unfollowing me!

    1. Yes, we were! After talking on Twitter about it I thought I would write a post on it as it really has annoyed me this week! It is so rude and people who ask for interactions in order for them to keep following you definitely deserve to be unfollowed ASAP! Xx

    1. Glad it made you laugh! The image represents the 'Hungry Followers' lol, I see them as little monsters! I find exactly the same, if their follower stats are much higher than their following I never follow them back because 99% of the time they will unfollow! Xx

  5. lol.... totally agree. The whole follow/unfollow. I follow people if they look cool, interesting, funny whatev... sure if the Rt freaking 20 times in 2 minutes I tend to unfollow them because they block my feed. However to follow just to get followed, well that is lame.

  6. This keeps happening to me on bloglovin and once on twitter. I was becoming incredibly disheartened and frustrated I even started keeping a list of people who started following me and if I followed them back! If they unfollow I unfollow them it drives me mad the people who do that !

I follow people if I like their blog and won't unfollow unless they write about something that really offends me which is basically never cause I'm not easily offended but people following me to get follows that offends me ! I was also going to write a post about it but didn't have the guts lol x

    1. Yea, I mentioned in this post it can be so disheartening to people who have put so much work into their blogs! You should write anything you feel like writing, don't be scared, often people appreciate an honest opinion! Xx

  7. It is really frustrating when you get all excited at a new follower then the next day BAMMM it's down to the same followers as the other day , generally if people follow me i'll follow them back but to be honest I have stopped doing this now because I now know it's not genuine . I also can not be dealing with people that don;t even read what I write it's like don't bother commenting if you can not be bothered with reading it.... for example maybe a week or so ago I posted a post about my bf mother passing away and how upset and shocked we all were because of how quick it had happened etc.. then this girl commented and said "i'm so happy to hear this great post"... I had to hold it and not angrily type back to her a "bad word"... but anyway yeah I feel your frustration on this one for sure... I've learnt my lesson .. i always enjoy reading your posts which is why I follow you and comment and READ what you write. xox

    1. That is honestly so so so so awful! I cannot believe someone would be so stupid to do that! I would of had to have said something to her! How ignorant! On the other hand I am glad you enjoy my posts and I really appreciate all the support you give me, you're fab! Xx

  8. I have experienced the same and I always feel just as disheartened. Like you, I also get excited by the fact that someone has taken an interest in what I have to say. People should only follow if they really intend to be part of that 'support system' that readers are to bloggers rather than following and then unfollowing so they have a good followers to following ratio.

    1. Yep! I cannot stand it when I see someone with 5000 followers yet only following 100... Something dodgy there lol! AVOID! Xx

  9. I have experienced the same like tones of times! And even on instagram! A beauty blogger commented on a pic saying she loved my insta and if I could check hers out and follow her and I said sure thing but why aren't you following me if you love it then? She followed me straight away and then unfollowed... I was pretty angry like ugh.
Sorry for the rant haha I just hate hungry followers!

    1. First of all don't ever be sorry for ranting lol I love a good rant! Yea, I've had that on Instagram too! The ones that comment and say 'Wow, amazing pic, follow?' but they haven't even followed me... LOL! Xx

  10. I 100% agree. Working hard for your followers is something to be really proud of. Buying followers is extremely pointless, they're not going to read your content! Great post x

    1. Yea, I really don't see the point in followers, I think some people think the purchased followers will actually read their posts... Wrong lol! Glad you enjoyed the post! Xx

  11. Totally agree, I check every single new follower and if I find their blog interesting I follow back and really dislike people who just wait for this step and unfollow right after. I've seen also some people follow me, then unfollow, then follow again, waiting for me to follow back. I'm not playing these games, if I follow someone is because I genuinely want to do it. x

  12. As I'm pretty new to all of this I find it really sad. I got into blogging, not just because I love makeup, but because I enjoy sharing information with others. I enjoy reading and learning from the many other bbloggers out there - and I naively assumed that everyone felt that way :(

  13. This happened to me recently and you are right it is so disheartening. I always knew it happened on twitter but was upset that it happens here too. At least I'm not the only one. Its not fair. So glad you made this post so I can vent too!

  14. I've only cottoned on to it recently that people do that, it's not very nice! I feel exactly the same though, I have a blog not because I want followers but purely because I love creating content. If people like my blog then that's fine, if they don't then It doesn't bother me either way! :)

  15. I completely agree with this, actually today i received a notification telling me I had 25 unfollowers on twitter and I decided to check who were those people and YES! they were "hungry followers" who followed me yesterday and I didn't follow them back immediately , I really hate when that happens usually It takes a while until I realize if I have new followers and of course I'm just going to follow those who looks interesting for me... #bloggerproblems haha
